Auckland Inground Pools Sustainability Statement

At Auckland Inground Pools, sustainability is not a single product choice or marketing claim; it is a design philosophy, construction discipline, and long-term commitment to building concrete pools that perform efficiently, last for generations, and minimise environmental impact across their full lifecycle.

As a Climate Care Certified pool builder, we apply sustainability measures where they are appropriate to each individual project, recognising that every concrete pool we build is custom, site-specific, and influenced by homeowner choice.

Sustainable Pool Design & Technology

Where suitable and agreed with the client, Auckland Inground Pools incorporates and encourages the following Climate Care-aligned measures into all pool and spa pool projects:

  • Pool covers and spa lids to reduce heat loss, evaporation, chemical demand, and debris ingress.
  • Solar heating systems and inverter heat pumps for efficient, low-energy heating
  • Energy-efficient variable-speed pool pumps
  • Smart automation systems, controllers, and chlorinators to optimise run times and efficient, effective chemical dosing.
  • Low-voltage LED pool and spa lighting with long service life and reduced energy consumption
  • Robotic and independent pool cleaners to reduce reliance on the main circulation system (extending the life of the pool plant).
  • Large-capacity cartridge filtration systems where appropriate, eliminating routine backwashing.
  • High-performance glass filter media (where media filters are required) to extend filter cycles and reduce backwashing run time / water loss.
  • Backwash minimisation strategies and pre-filtration through efficient system design and correct equipment sizing for water preservation.

Water Conservation & Reuse

We actively encourage that sites reduce unnecessary water loss by incorporating:

  • Rainwater tanks where available and compliant
  • Downpipe diverters to harvest rooftop catchment for pool make up water.
  • Overflow storage or controlled containment systems on suitable sites.
  • Minimum 30mm coping overhangs to minimise splash-out.
  • Thoughtful pool positioning and landscaping to reduce exposure to prevailing winds that speed up evaporation.

Hydraulic & Structural Efficiency

Hydraulic efficiency is central to long-term sustainability:

  • Hydraulically efficient plumbing layouts, including sweep elbows instead of sharp 90-degree bends where possible.
  • Minimum 50mm plumbing diameters, upsized as required based on pool size and flow rates required per pool application.
  • Systems designed to operate effectively at lower velocities and reduced energy demand.

All structures are engineered appropriately, not overbuilt, not underbuilt to ensure material efficiency and long-term durability.

Construction Practices Beyond the Pool

Sustainability at Auckland Inground Pools extends well beyond installed equipment:

  • Accurate set-out and planning, clear construction sequencing, and experienced project oversight
  • Skilled, trained staff rather than lowest-cost labour, resulting in fewer mistakes and less rework.
  • Reduced waste of concrete, steel, fuel, and labour by doing the job right the first time
  • Reduced site over-digs and accurate material ordering to minimise spoil and dumping.
  • Correct concrete volumes ordered to avoid unnecessary waste and dumping.
  • Powering down of computers, lighting, air conditioning etc each day in office.

Environmental Site Management

We maintain high standards on every site:

  • Active management of sediment runoff in accordance with RMA requirements
  • Protection of stormwater systems and surrounding environments
  • Prevention of chemical spills
  • Tidy, contained sites that protect both the environment and our professional reputation.

Fleet, Equipment & Operational Efficiency

Across our operations, we work to reduce emissions and energy use by:

  • Maintaining vehicles for optimal fuel efficiency
  • Planning site visits geographically to reduce unnecessary travel.
  • Using route optimisation for service teams
  • Reducing idle machinery time
  • Maintaining our plant and equipment to ensure efficient operation
  • Powering down tools and machinery when not in use

Less driving and efficient equipment use means lower fuel consumption and lower operational impact.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

Where practical, we implement:

  • Waste separation on site and at our yard.
  • Recycling of metals and reusable materials
  • Reduction of single-use materials where alternatives exist.

Commissioning, Education & Ongoing Care

Sustainability does not stop at handover. Auckland Inground Pools provides up to three months of post-handover pool care, ensuring:

  • Efficient operation
  • Correct backwash practices
  • Ongoing optimisation of equipment
  • Avoidance of unnecessary water dumping or chemical misuse

Clients are educated on efficient pool ownership through direct guidance, written resources, and blog content.

A well-informed pool owner makes better, more sustainable decisions over time.

Lifecycle Thinking & Future Proofing

Pools designed to evolve, not be replaced:

  • Provision for future upgrades such as automation, heating, and covers.
  • Support for pool refurbishment and renovation rather than demolition
  • Locally sourced products and materials where possible to reduce transport impacts.

Culture, Training & Integrity

We believe sustainability only works when people understand why it matters:

  • Ongoing staff training focused on purpose, not just process.
  • A culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Honest communication, avoiding greenwashing or blanket claims.

Not every pool will qualify for every single sustainability measure, and we are transparent about that. Integrity matters.

OUR COMMITTMENT

Auckland Inground Pools is committed to:

  • Building efficient, durable, and responsible pools
  • Operating a business that minimises waste and rework.
  • Supporting industry programs that lift standards across the board.
  • Protecting the credibility of Climate Care Certification through honesty and best practice

Sustainability is not a trend for us, it is how we build, how we operate, and how we plan for the future.
